Second Avenue Crush, released in 2009, was Brett Lucas' first solo album. At the time, he was the fresh new guitarist in Bettye Lavette touring band, renting a flat off Second Avenue in Detroit, and writing songs about love; yes that subject that is filled with passion, heartache and joy. The album's sound is centered with his voice and acoustic guitar. His sunburst Fender Stratocaster writhes melodically around his vocal lines while cello, played by Jeff Ehrinpreis, adds to delicate emotion of this album. Eric Johnson completes the sound with his lush resonating Piano tones and the mighty rhythm section is held down solid by Chuck Bartels on Bass and Julian VanSlyke on drums.
If you're a fan of Eric Clapton's albums from the 70's, the sweet sounds of Van Morrison's hits, or the modern acoustic song stylings of Ray LaMontange and Damien Rice, then you'll love Second Avenue Crush.
